Bacellar was the commanding officer of the 7,400-strong, multinational, UN peacekeeping mission currently in Haiti. His death, in addition to being a tragic loss, comes at an already tumultuous time as Haiti struggles for its first election since former president Aristide was ousted in February of 2004. Elections have been postpones four times since their initial date in November and the most recent date, ironically enough, being today, Jan. 8th. No new election date has been set.
