In 2004, the UNDP released a report offering a stinging reminder of the hardship Haiti faced. Two years later and not that much has changed at the aggregate level. However, like the proverb piti piti zwazo fe niche, Meds & Food for Kids (MFK) is certainly making those significant first steps. In a recent article, NewsRx.com detailed the work of Patricia A. Wolff, MD, an associate clinical professor of pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Dr. Wolff founded an organization, Meds & Food for Kids, in 2004 which works to combat childhood malnutrition and related diseases in Haiti, still the poorest country in our hemisphere. MFK utilizes a peanut-based feeding approach called Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (a proprietary form, see related article) which has shown to greatly reduce marasmus in children.
