Port Salut along to Roche a Bateaux, Coteaux,Port-au-Piment on to Les Anglais is the coming (and already established) "zone touristique" d'Haiti for Haitiens wanting to enrich their national interest. Having spent weeks roaming along this coastline, my extreme concern is "us" and what we'll eventually do to towards "modernizing" this absolutely shockingly beautiful area into a current day level of exploitation and polution. When visiting this coastline and the towns along the way please do all that you may to be certain that your plastic, your waste materials are disposed of correcly. Bluntly put, please don't bring "plastic" here unless you remove it. Some of the most beautiful (were) areas of Haiti have been polluted to the point of suffocation.
Port Salut Beach House, also Le RELAIS DES BOUCANIERS, (ask for Rosemary) are marvellous places to rest your mind and soul.
Two more years and I will be there also! Come to see me in 2011, December, at "Rien a Faire" or as is said "Nothing-To-Do", another wonderful place to be on Haiti's south-west coast across from Jamaica.
Port Salut and Haiti might just save your sanity, your marriage (either), your life!
Any of you who read this and may be linked to "recycling" and/or the engineering of "contained sanitary systems" might study this area or consult directly with coteaux@stis.net for the input of ideas that may be applied towards the protection this rural seaside wonderland.
The air-link to Les Cayes is easy from P-au-P, and a local car rental there may be had by calling ahead to "New Version CAr Rental" c/o Fredly Jn Pierre or Jospic Charles,(011) 509-483-9435, or 509-485-6628 located right at the Cayes airport.
From there it is about 35 minutes over the paved higheay to Port-Salut. The paved road is now reportedly all the way along to Coteaux.
Enjoy your exploration, and protect this magnificent area please!
